Heidi Diestel is a fourth-generation farmer at California-based Diestel Family Ranch, one of the few small, family-owned and operated ranches left in the nation. Today, she runs the ranch alongside her brother, Jason Diestel, and her husband, Jared Orrrock, continuing the high standards set by her grandfather Jack Diestel when he founded the ranch in 1949. With a deep commitment to the belief that nutrient density starts with healthy soil, Heidi has pioneered a transformative approach to poultry farming that reimagines traditional practices. In 2024, Diestel became the first U.S. turkey brand to secure Regenified certification, establishing itself as a leader in regenerative agriculture by prioritizing practices that support both animal welfare and environmental sustainability. Their practices are having a profound impact not just on the land but the birds too. A recent analysis completed by the Center for Human Nutrition Studies at Utah State University confirmed that Diestel turkeys grown with regenerative farming practices have improved nutritional profiles over conventional turkeys. As an influential leader in the organic food industry, Heidi also serves on the Organic Trade Association (OTA) Board and Diestel has been recognized as a Whole Foods Vendor of the Year. When she’s not at the ranch, Heidi actively seeks opportunities to collaborate with schools on lunch programs, gardening initiatives, and nutritional programming in her hometown of Sonora, California. She is also a mom to three young children who can often be found running amongst the turkeys and goats at the ranch.
