
Thomas Overthun
Thomas Overthun is an Executive Director at IDEO where he co-leads the company's Consumer Product & Retail Domain and industrial design practice. For over 25 years, Thomas has created and shepherded new products that reflect his unique approach to design. Thomas has a deep interest in how physical things are made and how this knowledge can help to lessen their impact on the environment; how they connect to the digital realm; and how they act as ambassadors of their brand. Thomas' experience spans decades and industries. From designing a market leading school chair for Steelcase to helping British legacy brand Brooks rediscover its innovative spirit, his expertise includes furniture for the workplace and home, sports products, consumer electronics, kitchen tools and personal care items. Thomas's work has won awards from IDEA, Red Dot, iF and Spark. Before IDEO, Thomas was part of the internal design team at Philips Electronics in the Netherlands. Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in industrial design from the University of Wuppertal, Germany.
