Assessing energy and water requirements to power AI at scale

This session will dive into a topic of universal interest and critical importance: the environmental sustainability performance of artificial intelligence (AI), analyzed through a life cycle assessment lens. Panelists will cover the current state of AI impacts as well as projections for the near-to-medium term.

Learning outcomes::

  • Learn what the energy and water footprints of different categories of AI currently look like, and how they are likely to change in the future
  • See how the sustainability performance of Generative AI in particular compares to that of other categories of AI and other commonly used digital technologies
  • Understand what companies and individuals can do to minimize negative environmental impacts of AI applications and participate in collective solutions
