Think about the last time you tried to discuss political, social, or environmental issues with someone who didn’t already agree with you. How did it go? Such conversations are critically important, but they often get stuck, or avoided entirely. People retreat to their comfort zones and form echo-chamber camps, frustrated that problems aren’t getting solved.
This workshop will serve as a hands-on guide to examining the moments in which conversations get stuck and discovering some hidden baggage that we all carry. We hold assumptions and judgments about the “other side” that stifle or even completely block effective communication. We retreat to the comfort of being among allies, even at the expense of leaving important work – both inside and out there in the world – undone. This session will help attendees acknowledge their inner blockages and contradictions, so that we can all focus on what really matters and together find solutions that work for all.
