Tim focuses on harnessing emerging science and technology to drive bio-inspired materials, manufacturing and product development. His work includes market identification and development of bio-manufactured materials, managing translational research into commercial settings, IP development, and creating roadmaps for future technologies.

As one of the first biologists to pioneer bio-inspired design research, Tim developed innovative techniques for bridging science and design insights and led the creation of IDEO Nature Cards. Additionally, he introduced the concept of Life-Centered Design and taught sustainable design at MCAD University. His scientific background includes work in genetics, genomics, biomaterials, ecology, and microbiology, and his consulting interests span industries such as aerospace, synthetic biology, retail, and materials science.

Recently, Tim has focused on creating disruptive manufacturing innovations that can reshape our existing fiber manufacturing technologies.
