Kristin Steiner
Kristin Steiner is the Director of Sustainability Solutions at Republic Services, where she helps large, complex businesses achieve their waste-related sustainability goals. In this role, she leads efforts to assess waste streams, develop tailored strategies, and oversee their implementation to optimize waste practices. Kristin began her career at Republic Services through the General Management Accelerated Program (GMAP). In 2019, she was promoted to General Manager of Central Oregon, overseeing 130 employees, a fleet of over 100 vehicles, and the financial health of the business unit. Two years later, she transitioned to Director of Sustainability, where she led Republic's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting, initiatives, and strategy.
Prior to Republic Services, Kristin worked as a licensed Civil Engineer and Project Manager in San Francisco and New York City, focusing on infrastructure projects such as roads, bike paths, and underground utilities for municipalities. With LEED accreditation, she specialized in stormwater storage and reuse, advancing sustainable infrastructure development.
Kristin holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from San Diego State University and earned both an MBA and a Master of Science from the University of Michigan's School for Environment & Sustainability. A licensed Professional Engineer from 2009 to 2017, she brings a strong technical and managerial background to her current role. Kristin has since returned to her hometown of San Diego, CA, where she lives with her husband, two daughters, and their Goldendoodle, Moose.
