Ensuring Balance in A Circular Supply Chain

Deep Dive

Supply Chain Management

Sustainable action is growing increasingly into a competitive factor that can tip the balance when the customer takes his or her purchase decision. Ecological responsibility, the conservation of fossil resources, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions go hand in glove with commercial success. Our common challenge: Adopting innovative methods and exploiting new business openings as well as making them understandable and attractive for customers.

BASF developed the innovative “biomass balance method” together with TÜV SÜD, in which fossil resources in the current Production Verbund are replaced by renewable resources with sustainability certification. The formulation and quality of the corresponding end products remain unchanged. In this process, renewable raw materials are used as feedstock at the very beginning of production in the Verbund, and allocated to the respective sales products using the novel certification method. The certified products thus contribute to sustainable development by saving fossil resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. But how communicate this along the value chain and to the (end-)consumers?

Join us to gain first hand insights from colleagues from the painting, textile and packaging industry that are already working with the biomass balance method. In an interactive session, we will work in small teams. Within this set up you will have the opportunity to experience based on concrete product examples how to use “the biomass balance method” in your own sustainability strategy and towards your customers.
