Sustainability at SB Brand-Led Culture Change
We’re committed to reducing the environmental impact of Sustainable Brands conferences by enlisting our community in the sustainable production of our events and improving our host communities’ sustainability initiatives and performance.

Sustainability Partners
Premier Sustainability Partner
Honeycomb Strategies (HCS) is SB’s sustainability consultant working to develop and implement a sustainability program with focused efforts in the areas of waste management, energy and water conservation, sustainable procurement, and community engagement. HCS and SB have worked together for the past eight years allowing HCS to track and assess SB’s conference sustainability practices and assist SB in identifying goals and opportunities.
Sustainable Action Partner
Sustainable Brands has partnered with AWorld to launch the SB Change-Maker Challenge. All attendees are encouraged to join the SB Courageous Optimists team and take action on bringing about positive change through SB’s Nine Sustainable Behaviors that address social and environmental issues. By participating and logging these actions throughout the year, we will collectively earn points. When we reach our goal of 10,000 sustainable actions, AWorld will work with one of their partners to restore an area coral reef. Join the SB community and help align business and society on the path to a better future.
Water Restoration Partner
Water use will be balanced with Bonneville Environmental Foundation’s (BEF) Water Restoration Certificates (WRCs). These certificates will balance the estimated water impacts from the Hilton Minneapolis for three days. WRCs are sourced from the Colorado River Indian Tribes Project.
Carbon Offset Partner
Carbon emissions from the event, including attendee travel and venue operations at the Hilton Minneapolis are offset by ClimatePartner. Offsets are sourced from the Clean Cookstoves Project in Maharashtra India. The aim of this project is to facilitate cleaner cooking practices and improve health by providing improved cookstoves to indigenous households and families living below the poverty level in Maharashtra.
Community Partner
Sustainable Brands is partnering with Neighborhood Forest, a Minneapolis-based organization focused on getting trees in the hands of children. Neighborhood Forest will donate a tree through their program for every attendee who registers in the month of April.
Waste Mitigation Partner
Sustainable Brands is partnering with Terracycle to collect otherwise non-recyclable or compostable waste and keep it out of landfills.
Food & Beverage Ordering and Operations
Sustainable Brands is working with the Hilton Minneapolis to plan a plant-forward menu while simultaneously reviewing attendance and consumption data from past events when determining order quantities to reduce food waste. Excess food will be donated through the Hilton’s partnership with Second Harvest Heartland Food Meal Connect Program. Food not suitable for human consumption will be donated to local pig and cattle farms; the Hilton Minneapolis provides 248,000 pounds of food to local pig and cattle feed annually. SB uses the EPA’s Food Recovery Hierarchy as a guide for our food and beverage operations.
At Sustainable Brands, we are committed to modeling the best behaviors and practices we share with our community.
