Alessandro Armillotta
Alessandro is an award-winning environmental activist and entrepreneur who pushes the boundaries of innovation and behavioral science for the wellbeing of the planet.
He is the CEO of AWorld, the Italian climate tech startup chosen by the United Nations as their digital partner in individual action for the ACTNOW campaign. AWorld is the climate platform dedicated to helping citizens and stakeholders take action and live their values while learning more about sustainability and our relationship with the world around us. The campaign has been promoted by UN ambassadors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Antonio Gutierrez and Elisa.
Born in England and raised in Italy, Alessandro grew up in the fashion industry. After selling his first company he gained international exposure for his business acumen and strategic insight. In 2002, he was tapped by Richard Cohen and appointed as the President of Bluefly, the luxury online retailer based in NYC.
Through his career, Alessandro joined the Hilfiger family in developing and running their Italian lines and maintains a close mentor relationship with Tommy.
His last foray in fashion was with One World, a fast-fashion conglomerate located in Shanghai, China.That experience shook him to his core, and after years of seeing the impact apparel had on manufacturing communities and the environment, Alessandro left the fashion industry and created AWorld.
AWorld aims to inspire, educate and hold us accountable for living in line with our sustainability values, as well as connecting like-minded people together to make positive change on a global scale.
Alex is a Tedx speaker, the co-founder and CEO of AWorld and the first person to raise the SDG flag to its highest altitude when he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2022.
He believes that building and creating a culture of sustainability is the foundation for fighting climate change and solving systemic issues throughout the world. He was awarded with; 2022 Top Sustainable Startup Sole 24 Ore, 2022 Top Italian Startup Smau, 2021 Startup of the Year by StartupItalia, 2020 Zurich Innovation Championship Award, 2019 Impact Now Award, 2017 Netcomm Award Winner - Best B2B, 2017 NC Digital Awards - Best B2B
