Unravelling the future energy challenge – the role of renewables and electrification in the low-carbon energy transformation
The climate crisis is accelerating and calls for corporate action to address it are getting louder. The net zero transition will require massive change to the global energy system, which needs to decarbonize rapidly at the same time as meeting soaring energy demand. Electricity has the potential to help meet this rising demand with fewer emissions, and electricity from renewables will be especially vital to meeting the challenges of scaling, cost, and intermittency . How can we best seize renewables' promise and meet the world’s growing need for energy while keeping carbon emissions low and dealing with climate change and ensuring a just transition? Join this session to hear representatives from companies, civil society, and the public sector as they discuss challenges and opportunities on the path to decarbonizing infrastructure, addressing the role of electricity in the automotive and transportation space, and considering the implications of society’s need for more and cleaner energy solutions. The session will begin with a screening of the Rational Middle’s 'Electrifying America' short film, which explores how changing the electric grid will impact climate change, consumers, and the economy.
