About Julia
Julia spent the majority of her career in B2B digital marketing and media, where she saw a need for transparency in better reaching a company’s audience. She moved from Colorado to Portland, met a group of farmers starting a small farm, and fell in love with small-scale farming. She also quickly realized how hard it was to be a small producer. She observed a disconnect in the market between what consumers were demanding and how producers were unable to meet that demand due to lack of resources and market access. After four years of conducting market research with farmers and chefs, Julia quit her corporate job and took over a USDA meat processing facility. In delivering meat to local restaurants, she saw firsthand how much cost was tied up in logistics. Through both first and second-hand research, Julia emerged with the idea to use technology to replicate joint collection and delivery, as was the norm in local food systems before industrialized farming became the
norm in the 1960’s—but this time at a much bigger scale—and so MilkRun was born.
