Jane Spencer is a digital media executive and journalist with experience leading newsrooms and driving audience growth at companies including The Guardian,The Wall Street Journal, The Daily Beast and Fusion Media. As deputy editor of The Guardian’s US edition, her portfolio includes newsroom innovation, reader revenue initiatives, philanthropically-supported journalism, audience development, and special projects.
Before joining the Guardian in 2016, Jane was editor-in-chief and senior vice president at Fusion Media Group, a millennial-focused cable and digital network owned by Univision. She was one of the founding editors of The Daily Beast in 2008, where she served as managing and executive editor, and helped launch the Women in the World event franchise. Previously, she spent six years as a reporter and foreign correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, and was part of a team that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2007 for coverage of China’s health and environmental challenges. She was awarded a 2013 Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University.
