About Garret
Garret Ellison is an environmental reporter for MLive Media Group. He has specialized in reporting on per- and poly-fluorinated chemicals, or PFAS, and their impact on Michigan residents. He broke the story of Nestle’s attempt to extract more groundwater from Michigan for bottling and his extensive reporting on PFAS, the Wolverine Worldwide tannery pollution in Rockford and the controversial Line 5 oil pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac earned him the 2017 Journalist of the Year Award from the Michigan Press Association Foundation. He started his career as a business reporter for The Grand Rapids Press, MLive’s largest newspaper, and has won awards for business reporting from both the Associated Press Media Editors and the Michigan Press Association. He teaches journalism classes at Grand Valley State University and holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University.
