Managing Director Climate and Energy
Dra. María Mendiluce is the Managing Director Climate and Energy for the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD)
Maria has a renowned 20 year experience in the energy sector; her policy background and personal leadership have been instrumental to WBCSD´s work. She has been in charge of the development of the organisation´s Climate and Energy strategy which guides the work of 200 member companies and influences in global Climate Change discussions. In particular, at the French Government invitation and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Maria led over 150 global companies under the Low Carbon Technology Partnerships Initiative (LCTPi), one of the emblematic projects which mobilized a large number of CEOs towards concrete solutions and successful participation in COP21.
Before joining the WBCSD based in Geneva, María worked in the International Agency of Energy in Paris, in Iberdrola and in the Economic Office of the President of the Spanish Government where she coordinated the first Spanish Strategy of Sustainable Development.
Maria has a Doctorate in Energy Intensity in Spain by the Institute of Technological Investigation (IIT) of Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. She also teaches in the University of Geneva and coaches students throughout thesis. She is also recognized for her contributions to scientific journals and international conferences on energy and climate change.
