Convergence on quality: High-integrity approaches to carbon markets and credits
Please note: This session will maintain confidence in line with Chatham House Rule.
At times, it may seem safer to “sit on the sidelines” than buy carbon credits to address the emissions companies cannot yet reduce. But more private sector leadership is needed to get the world on track to meet ambitious targets such as those established in the Paris Agreement.
Getting started in carbon markets can be difficult–which project types fit with the company’s goals and which projects are delivering high-integrity results? In this session, experts will describe the “convergence on quality” that is happening between multiple initiatives such as the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), the Voluntary Carbon Market Integrity Initiative (VCMI), and the US Government Principles for High-Integrity Voluntary Carbon Markets. With a focus on the types of due diligence companies can implement to ensure good alignment with the projects and credits they buy, attendees will be leave equipped to get started or evolve their existing approaches.
Learning Outcomes:
- Hear the business case for buying carbon credits as part of a diverse portfolio of climate action to address residual emissions
- Learn the steps involved in developing a high-integrity carbon project
- Discover resources business leaders can lean on to help support decision making and risk mitigation
