Karen is formerly a Fortune 200 Sustainability Executive with a career-long focus working at the intersection of business, environmental, social and governance (ESG), and enterprise risk management topics. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions advancing the relevance and standing of sustainability and environmental, health and safety professions across business, academia, and non-governmental organizations.
With a background in global operations, corporate functions, and management consulting, Karen’s last corporate role was as Vice President and Global Head of Environment at Novartis AG. There, as its functional Chief Sustainability Officer, she led Group-level sustainability strategy, governance, reporting, and the Global Environment Team.
Karen is currently working on expanding corporate boards’ engagement in ESG issues through board education, mentoring, and board service. She also is on the executive team of WomenExecs on Boards, a non-profit formed out of Harvard Business School - Executive Education, focused on governance excellence through gender diversity and equality on corporate boards across the globe.
She is a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA®), recipient of the 2019 Women in Energy and Environment Leadership Award, and in 2022 received the ESG Global Competent Boards Certificate and Designation (GCB.D). Karen has lived and / or worked across five continents, and now lives in the Greater Boston Area, Massachusetts with her husband Jim and their two sons.
