Sen. Reuven Carlyle
Reuven Carlyle is an entrepreneur, sustainability consultant and state senator.
Carlyle represents the 36th District in the Washington State Senate home to the iconic Space Needle and the global headquarters of Amazon, Expedia, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and PATH. Carlyle, first elected to the Legislature in 2008, will complete his senate service in January 2023.
Carlyle chairs the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee. He was a lead sponsor and architect of sweeping state climate legislation considered by many national observers as the “nation’s most ambitious climate policy.” This includes: Climate Commitment Act, the nation’s second economy-wide, cap and invest carbon pricing; Clean Fuel Standard; Clean Energy Transformation Act moving to 100% renewable energy by 2045 and more. He has also led on foster youth education, elimination of the death penalty, consumer data privacy, tax transparency and higher education.
Professionally, Carlyle is a sustainability and climate strategy consultant. He has held senior business development, board of director or policy roles at PointB, McCaw Cellular Communications, AT&T Wireless, Xypoint Corp., Twisted Pair Solutions, Synapse Product Development and other firms.
He received a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a MPA from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Carlyle resides in Seattle with his wife Dr. Wendy Carlyle, an anesthesiologist practicing at Swedish Medical Center. They have four children.
