Hakon Mattson is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Elevance Health, a Fortune 20 health care organization focused on whole health. Fueled by a bold purpose to improve the health of humanity, Elevance Health is transforming from a traditional health benefits organization into a lifetime trusted health partner. With nearly 100,000 associates serving more than 118 million people, Elevance Health addresses a full range of needs with an integrated whole health approach.
Hakon is responsible for the development, implementation, and reporting for all aspects of corporate sustainability. Hakon’s focus is driving connections at the intersection of human health, technology, and sustainability to advance corporate purpose, strategically align environmental, social and governance (ESG) programs and embed sustainability into Elevance Health’s culture and enterprise strategy. As a Certified Energy Manager, Hakon is proud to have developed strategy that resulted in Elevance Health being the first major health benefits company that is carbon neutral for operations.
Hakon began his career in the Peace Corps where he consulted micro enterprises in the development of sustainable tourism projects. Hakon earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Richmond. Hakon currently serves on the Fitwel Leadership Advisory Board and Department of Energy Better Buildings Steering Committee.
