About James Beard
James joined Valpak in 2007 and has worked in a variety of roles in that time, building up a wealth of knowledge in the fields of Extended Producer Responsibility, waste management and waste minimisation. As Valpak’s Recycling Services Manager, he is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the recycling and waste management service offered by Valpak, working with businesses of all sizes to get the best value for their recyclate and help them achieve environmental ambitions such as zero waste to landfill.
James has recently returned from an expedition to the uninhabited Henderson Island in the South Pacific, one of the remotest places on the planet. As well as being remote, the beaches of Henderson Island are also the most polluted in the world. The multi-disciplinary expedition team consisted of scientists, conservationists, artists and journalists and aimed to clean the waste from the beaches of Henderson Island and provide important scientific data to help study the scale and impact of marine debris.
James is a graduate from Stirling University and Warwick University.
