Michael Malara, VP of Sustainability North America for South Pole has worked across industries with experience in the built environment, energy efficiency, supply chain sustainability, emissions reductions, carbon management and renewable energy strategy. He is a LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Green Associate, holds a Galileo’s Master Certificate in Carbon Management and Renewable Energy Management and Finance from the European Centre of Technology, a GPRO Green Building Fundamentals certification and a M.A. in International and Sustainable Business.
Michael has gained international experience across the NGO and private sectors having worked for the Urban Green Council, the New York City Chapter of the United States Green Building Council as well as The Forest Trust, in Nyon, Switzerland, an international non-profit working with multinationals on traceability in environmental and social sustainability in global supply chains.
Currently, Michael heads South Pole’s work with North American Sports institutions working to measure, reduce and compensate their environmental footprint and enhance fan engagement through sustainability focused marketing. Within the unique ecosystem of the Sports Industry, South Pole works with associations, leagues, franchises and stadiums, arenas and other sporting facilities. South Pole believes that Sports organizations are uniquely positioned from a cultural perspective and as such have a unique opportunity to have meaningful impact and influence.
