Marcelo Lu provides strategic oversight on all business activities within Canada, working across the organization to bring BASF’s corporate purpose “We create chemistry for a sustainable future” to life. Marcelo has been the driving force behind sustainability-focused activities and has been instrumental in spearheading BASF’s partnership with the Canadian chapter of the UN Global Compact, Bullfrog Power, as well as the company’s involvement in the Carbon Impact Initiative as a founding member.
Prior to moving to Canada, Marcelo was Vice President, Business Management Polyamides and Precursors, for BASF in Asia Pacific. Throughout his career he has worked towards integrating sustainability into business strategies and procurement practices while holding various positions within BASF Group. Prior to joining BASF, Marcelo held several consulting positions at International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector development arm of the World Bank, in Washington, DC.
Marcelo has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University (Washington DC, USA). He currently serves as Vice-Chairman for the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada (CIAC) and as board member to the Canadian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
