Jay Bolus

Jay Bolus is one of the most authoritative speakers on the human and environmental impacts of products and materials. He has been involved with the development of the Cradle to Cradle Certified Products Program and responsible for the development of MBDC’s Cradle to Cradle® Benchmarking methodology, a tool to evaluate the impact chemicals and materials have on human and environmental health. Using his extensive knowledge of Cradle to Cradle design application to products and materials, Jay has the unique insight required to work with a company’s global supply chain to inventory, assess and optimize products.

Jay joined MBDC in 1997 and now serves as President of Certification Services. He works with product development teams to add business value through a better understanding of what products are made from and how to optimize products through continuous improvement using the Cradle to Cradle design principles. He has directly influenced the design of hundreds of products.

Some of the many companies he has worked with include Steelcase, which has achieved Cradle to Cradle Certification on more than 70 office furniture products, as well as CENTRIA, Dow Building Solutions, L’Oreal, MechoShade Systems Inc, Method, Milliken, Owens-Illinois, SABIC Innovative Plastics, Sloan Valve Co., Shaw Industries and the United States Postal Service.

Jay has been published in Environmental Science and Technology and was named one of the top 100 most influential people in business ethics for 2007 by Ethisphere magazine. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Business minor from the University of Richmond and his Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Virginia.
